"Hello, Sailor!" WILDFOX Summer 2013

Coming within the next two weeks is our summer collection of pin up inspired clothing!! We had so much fun designing this and shooting it. It stars our muse, the brilliant model Valerie Van Der Graaf, who is the ultimate pin-up girl, and is shot by me. I hope you guys enjoy it and are inspired to read the history of the pin up girl, maybe even order a copy of the book I linked here! Can you see which pin up images and artists inspired these shots? XX

One of the most iconic images that exude confidence and femininity is none other than the 1950s pin-up girl. The vintage artwork is still used to showcase beautiful women of all shapes and sizes, which embodies the same cheeky and outgoing personality of a Wildfox girl. Wildfox is proud to present our Summer 2013 collection, “Hello Sailor!”

Designer Kimberly Gordon drew inspiration from 1950’s culture for the collection stating, “I’ve always been a big fan of pin-up art, it’s so extremely American and the history behind the pin-up girl is so interesting. I grew up collecting cheesecake books, I starred as Sandy in the school production of Grease, I listened to Elvis constantly and memorized every oldie I could get my hands on.”

Summer 2013 is all about making girls feel beautiful!  U.S.A.-inspired tees and sweaters with fun Americana graphics such as a sequin “U.S.A.” across a tight knit White Label sweater, “I Want You” on our signature Cassidy Tank, and an intarsia knit “Red Cross” on an oversized cardigan.  Our endlessly comfortable baggy beach jumpers and gypsy hoodies are adorned with milkshakes, French poodles, and cherries, taking our Wildfox girls right back to a 50’s malt shop!

Women posing for pin up paintings

Check out this great book all about the pinup girl, here is a little info:

"Subverting stereotypical images of women, a new generation of feminist artists is remaking the pin-up, much as Annie Sprinkle, Cindy Sherman, and others did in the 1970s and 1980s. As shocking as contemporary feminist pin-ups are intended to be, perhaps more surprising is that the pin-up has been appropriated by women for their own empowerment since its inception more than a century ago. Pin-Up Grrrls tells the history of the pin-up from its birth, revealing how its development is intimately connected to the history of feminism. Maria Elena Buszek documents the genre’s 150-year history with more than 100 illustrations, many never before published.

Beginning with the pin-up’s origins in mid-nineteenth-century carte-de-visite photographs of burlesque performers, Buszek explores how female sex symbols, including Adah Isaacs Menken and Lydia Thompson, fought to exert control over their own images. Buszek analyzes the evolution of the pin-up through the advent of the New Woman, the suffrage movement, fanzine photographs of early film stars, the Varga Girl illustrations that appeared in Esquire during World War II, the early years of Playboy magazine, and the recent revival of the genre in appropriations by third-wave feminist artists. A fascinating combination of art history and cultural history, Pin-Up Grrrls is the story of how women have publicly defined and represented their sexuality since the 1860s."

Granny's Closet!! Wildfox Resort 2012/13

I am so excited to show you our resort collection that comes out this November, and right after is our swimwear (woo hoo!!) This shoot was so much fun, it has such a sense of humor and I hope you guys love it.

It was spoken so beautifully by Audrey Hepburn, “I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and... I believe in miracles.”

Going to Grandmas house as a kid you don’t really think of her as a young woman, you see her as she is, old and maybe a bit crabby, hilarious and totally picky, wearing outfits she’s had since the 60’s mixed with incredibly funny 80’s sweat suits and orthopedic shoes. You see her napping with a book on her chest, glasses slipping down her nose, her cat perched on the edge of the sofa like a sphinx, it smells like an antique store mixed with something sweet, you try to imagine your mother growing up with her, going to bed in this house, maybe you stare at those sun bleached pictures Gran’s got stored away under her huge, white vanity.  Her cat ornaments fill the edge of the glass table, you try on her pearl earrings and polka dot bangles, sparkling costume diamonds and dark red lipstick, looking in the mirror for a second you can almost picture her, 18, summertime, crushing over the Paul Newman look-alike lifeguard at the lake, or 21 years old laughing with her girlfriends over gin martinis in nude thigh highs and pin curls. It’s hard to imagine that granny, but when you see one of those old photos of her it can be fantastically over whelming... this is where you came from!

This collection is a tribute to granny and her perfectly mismatched style, her love of cats, jewels, travels and gardening, her hair that she never cuts, the old mansion she bought in the 90’s with the last of her savings, her big glasses she always wears to brunch, and that grandma spirit we all know and adore.

Wildfox White Label Fall 2012 intimates! Juliet Capulet, The Real World

This shoot was inspired by Juliet's bedroom if she had been alive in the 90s, lived in Verona and starred on The Real World. The intimates will be up for sale this month! So exciting, they are SO cute. I hope you enjoy these images, I wanted them to have a very raw, intimate feel. The beautiful Marianne Fonseca goes un-retouched for a dreamy, realistic vibe. My favorite is the black galazy star bra...

"Inspired by those dreamy, romantic nights in Juliet's lavish Italian bedroom, Wildfox presents a new collection of intimates. Spun of soft, 90's-inspired velvet, this new collection is laden with beautiful prints and soft textures. Decadent and a tiny bit daring, Wildfox Intimates are for the most poetic of girls -- the girls who lives for romance, who lay in bed collaging Polaroids of the ocean, who memorize constellations, scribble poetry across blank pages of homemade paper, love their cat more than anything, and hang curtains of pink lace. The ones who pair nose rings and Doc Martens with floral bras, swim naked, sleep on soft, white blankets in the living room, and dip strawberries in chocolate. This collection is for girls who only have whiskey in the freezer, milk and leftover cheesecake in the fridge, dream constantly, and love to gaze at the canals from their window in Venice. They bike everywhere, kiss strangers and waltz through the house to Frank Sinatra on vinyl.

This is the girl who wears pajamas to a party, or a bra over her t-shirt -- the girl who loves dancing in her underwear, cooking in an apron and panties, and starting games of strip poker with her friends. You've met her before, maybe you've had sleepovers at her house. You've seen her clothes strewn all over the bathroom, admired dainty bras hanging from antique lampshades, you've laughed about boys as she sat in cloud print underwear and did her makeup in front of a beautiful vanity.

She's always in love; she is afraid of nothing. Maybe she's your closest friend... or maybe she's you."

Societte Perrier interview

Playfully inspired by the '90s flick Romeo and Juliet, Wildfox introduces their premiere intimates collection for Fall 2012. Spun of soft, '90s inspired velvet, this new collection features an array of vintage-inspired, nostalgic prints and graphics, including black cats, muted florals, fluffy white clouds and starry nights. Daring and decadent, each piece feels as though it was stolen from the nightstand in Juliet's boudoir.

"I remember in high school having a shrine of Leonardo DiCaprio pictures, daydreaming that I was Claire Danes in angel wings." says Emily Faulstich, one third of the design team. (The line is a collaboration between Kimberly Gordon, Leilani Shimoda and Faulstich.)

As teenagers we idolized the bright, poppy aesthetic and slightly punk edge to the movie, and loved the romantic story and poetry of it. Our intimates try and convey this romanticism and rebellion, as if they were made for Juliet Capulet to pack in her bags as she ran away to meet Romeo."

The designers' first ever intimates collection is comprised of decadent, floor-length velvet robes, cozy, over-sized sweatshirts, mesh-accented bodysuits and sexy bustier brief sets. According to Faulstich, the pieces are meant to be worn well and often — inside and outside of the bedroom.

"[The] intimates are meant to be styled with your everyday outfits in a way that can be seen (or hidden, your choice), but nothing is sheer, no underwire or garters, which we think makes it more comfortable and beautiful," Faulstich tells us.

The new intimates collection is a home run for the Wildfox designers. Every single piece is darling, romantic and decadent - a perfect match for the quintessential Wildfox Girl.

Wildfox Sun
Summer 2012
“Stare At The Sun”

Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles-based womens brand Wildfox Couture launches its premiere Wildfox Sun sunglass collection for Summer 2012.  The range was designed and developed by eyewear designer Benjamin Montoya of Benjamin Eyewear, who was inspired to create “A classic, well thought out collection heavily influenced and balanced with the palette and energy of Wildfox.”

The frames are handmade using a mixture of both acetate and metal, the acetate pieces comprise approximately 70% of the collection while metal and metal-acetate combination pieces make up the balance.  The primary lens materials used vary from solid to gradient color options in grey, rose, and brown, while some are either traditional mirror or multi colored mirror coated.

The “Classic Fox” is an oversized wayfarer-style frame made of heavy acetate and is offered in black, matte black, pink, and tortoise colors.  A “Classic Mirror Fox” group offers a variety of Classic Fox frames with lenses in blue multi colored mirror, pink/purple or gold mirror choices.  The “Juliet” is essentially the Classic Fox style, but with a miniature star pattern etched across the top of the frame and is offered in matte black, red, pink, tortoise, and cream.  Both “Bel Air” and “Twiggy” styles feature a modern take on a retro design with round acetate frames in black, pink, or white.  Each of the round metal “Starstruck” and “Winona” frames come in either gold or silver with or without a star design embedded in the lenses.
