Why Spend?
January 18 When you buy expensive things from high end brands you are not only buying this thing, this necklace, perfume, T shirt, lipstick or what have you, you are also helping that brand stay afloat, to give you those great campaigns, beautiful models, talented, expensive designers, runway shows, and superb quality that doesn't fade. It is always important to remember why things cost money and why things don't and to remember you are paying for much more than just your item, you are buying and supporting a lifestyle. It's really nice, when you think about it!
When I was younger I shopped at places like Forever 21, now I realize what that company has to sacrifice to keep their prices so low, including low pay for their employees, bad fabrics (in many ways), cheap factories, and the stealing of other people's creativity and hard work. If you haven't got the money for designer please consider looking for local brands or vintage, if you regularly shop somewhere cheap check out it's history and make sure you aren't supporting something you don't believe in!

where are wildfox items made? are they made in the us?
Thanks for sharing. I was excited about Forever 21 coming to Vancouver soon, but had no idea what their production and company ethics were like.
Good point! Trying to ween myself off of F21. Doing well so far!! It feels so much better when I can save up and buy that expensive thing that I've been eye-ing for so long!
Actually I wasn't even thinking about it. Thanks for shedding a light on such issues.
You do have a point. But many designer brands also use unethical work and materials. So you can't count on that the price tells much about the product. Often the only thing you end up paying is the brand. Many designer brands are changing in to bad fabrics and materilas (like chanel bags). And for the designers and the designing process I once red interview of a woman that worked as a designer for Vivienne Westwood, And she said that it is sometimes hard 'cos you don't get credit at all. Everything you desing has Vivienne Westwoods signature your name is not showing anywhere.
So I think we should check in for the companies that we suport by using them and demand that their products are ethical.
When I buy shoes from HM I don't think their gonna last long. But when I buy designer shoes and they ar not good guality I end up feeling cheated.
I am a student in Finland so I have very small income. I use flea markets and cheap brands like HM. Sometimes even zara is too expencive for me.
I dream of nice black good guality desiner bag. But with this income...
Kimberly, I'm glad that you and the Wildfox team feel so strongly about this. One of my goals this year is to buy as few items from China as possible. Usually I'm pretty good about it; I haven't bought from F21 or H&M in literally years. When it comes to fashion, much of the time, you pay for what you get - cheap clothes often mean not only bad (or stolen) design, but they also mean terrible quality. Plus, nothing feels so good as spending your hard-earned money on something you've saved up for ages. I'm a college student who pays all of my own bills, so I know how difficult it is to shell out a lot for one tshirt, or one dress, but it's WORTH IT.
I could go on, but I know I'm just preaching to the choir! In short, you guys are amazing. I love the ideas and ethics behind Wildfox!
and now i love you even more =)
You can also tell the difference. From my first pair of designer jeans in college to my new designer handbag collection, you can see the craftsmanship and painstaking attention to detail (and quality fabrics, design.) :)
x X
I always shop secondhand on ebay - I go for things like American Apparel and the odd designer piece if it's at the right price, and I've never been disappointed. Places like Primark and other cheap high street brands are not only pushing cheap clothing on the masses, but they're also adding to this clothing mountain. You wouldn't believe how much Primark stuff ends up in charity shops, and who is going to buy it? No one. So it gets chucked out. It's all very short-sighted and I wish people would think before they buy. Perhaps designer is a bit beyond my price range, but I look for other sources of clothing that may have been pre-loved, but is still beautiful, and doesn't leave me feeling incredibly guilty about its source or its future. x
ahhh finally a great blogger that has these views on F21...thank you <3 i've been trying to get this out for years...have you seen my absurd lookbook.nu post from 2009? http://lookbook.nu/look/217874-F-O-R-G-E-R-Y-XXI LOL! xxo
Thank you! Ive been telling all my friends for years, Don't shop at FOREVER21!. Watch http://www.madeinla.com/
I was in my local shopping centre today in the U.K and was totally shocked to see 2 t-shirts in the window which were complete wildfox rip offs! I love Wildfox and it made me really angry to think that a crap company like primark was doing this. :(
Just sayin ;) xx
